Note: To download QuickGPSfix information on your device, you need to establish a Bluetooth connection between your device and your mobile phone and you must have a wireless data connection on your mobile phone, such as GPRS, CDMA, UMTS, or EDGE. See the manual for your device for more information. How QuickGPSfix works In order to locate your position, your TomTom device needs to listen for GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites. GPS permits land, sea, and air users to find out their position, speed, and the time 24 hours a day, in all weather, anywhere in the world. In order to listen to the satellites, your device needs to find them and needs an unobstructed view of the sky. Satellites only broadcast their positions once every 30 seconds and if any of their signals are interrupted, for example by passing high buildings, it can take your device some time before it finds enough satellites to locate your current position. The QuickGPSfix file contains information about where the satellites are going to be for the next seven days and tells your device those locations. Your device uses this information to find the satellites quickly and therefore locate your current position quickly. After downloading a new QuickGPSfix file, your device knows where to start looking for satellites for the next seven days, regardless of whether the GPS signal is weak or strong. |
